A sinful delight for birthdays or special events!






Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 – 9 inch round baking pan or 2 8 inch rounds for a layer cake.
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Stand or hand mixer


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp of baking powder
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • ¾ tsp of salt
  • 2/3 cup of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 1½ cup of white sugar
  • 2 eggs (at room temp)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cup of banana purée


  • Heat oven to 350º F.
  • Mix milk and vinegar in bowl and set aside
  • Grease and lightly flour pan(s)
  • In a small bowl, mix milk and vinegar in bowl and set aside.
  • In the medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt set aside.
  • Beat butter, sugar and eggs until light and fluffy. 
  • Incorporate banana purée and vanilla and transfer into a large bowl.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the large bowl and gradually add milk and vinegar liquid. After each addition slowly mix the batter well.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan(s).
  • Bake 40-45 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
  • Cool 15 minutes in pan.
  • Cool completely before frosting cake.

 While the cake is cooling, make your frosting.

Chocolate Banana Frosting


  • Mix 1 ¼ cup melted butter with ½ cup of cocoa powder.
  • Mix in ¼ cup banana puree, 2 tablespoons of milk, ½ tsp of vanilla and 3 cups powdered sugar. 
  • Mix well until smooth. 
  • When cake is cooled, frost the cake.

 Yield: About 12 servings
