Weight Watchers Mini Cake | Four Point Microwave Cake
Submitted by Shirley
This is a great Weight Watchers recipe using either two cake mixes; an angel food cake mix and any other flavor cake mix, or you can use just one cake mix as long as it is a reduced sugar cake mix. It is delicious either way, and super easy to make.
I buy a box of any flavor cake mix and a box of angel food cake mix, or if I see a reduced sugar cake mix, I’ll get that instead. I pour the cake mix(es) in a bag and mix them together, if using two. Then I take 1/3 cup of the cake mix and add 3 tablespoons of water or soda. I mix that together in a microwave safe bowl or mug and then put it in the microwave for one minute. Voila, I have cake! I don’t use any frosting. I just prefer it that way, and I’m cutting the calories even more! But if you want to use the frosting, use the reduced sugar kind and only use 1 tblsp. This is a great way to have my cake and eat it too! And I don’t have to eat a whole cake, just my one serving. It’s perfect! And that bag of cake mix lasts a long time, and it’s inexpensive. Whenever I get a hankering for cake, there it is!
Recipe Variations:
This cake recipe can be changed as you’ll see in the video below. She uses a reduced sugar cake mix instead of the mixture of angel food and another flavor. Either way will work. You’ll see that she uses soda instead of water. If you use the mixture of angel food and another flavor, use water. If you use just one cake mix, use the soda. Watch this:
Things You’ll Need
- Cooking Spray
- Reduced sugar cake mix (any flavor), or combination of Angel food cake mix and any other flavor regular cake mix.
- Microwave safe cereal bowl or coffee mug and spoon
- Toothpicks
- Water or Soda (Use any dark soda for dark cake mixes, light colored soda for light colored cake mixes)
- Reduced sugar frosting
- Measuring cups and spoons
Ingredients
- Any flavor cake mix (As packaged – without the added ingredients)
- Angel Food cake mix – optional (As packaged – without the added ingredients)
- Any diet soda or water
Directions
- Spray the bowl with cooking spray
- Add 1/3 cup cake mix to the bowl or mug
- Add 1/3 cup soda to the cake mix and mix together with a spoon
- Cook in microwave for 1 & 1/2 minutes on high, until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. (Time may vary depending on your microwave)
- Scoop 1 tblsp. of the reduced fat frosting onto the top of the cake and microwave on high for 15-20 seconds. This will soften the frosting.
- Now take your spoon and spread the frosting over the cake.

I mixed up a Red Velvet/Angel Food blend and a Devil’s Food/Angel Food blend- keep them in containers in my cupboard- they are so good when I need a little something sweet!
Can you use any cake mix brand like Pillsburry or does it have to be Duncan Hines?
Jenn,
You can use any brand of cake mix and this recipe should work. Liz.
I’ve been making these recently. I had the juice from crushed pineapple, and it included a few small pieces of pineapple. I used that for the liquid in a white cake/angel food mix, and it worked well! Really good!
The thing is reduced sugar has no real influence on WW points in looking up the nutrition facts to compare (because reduced sugar cake mix isn’t even in their system so to find the points for what the point total would be now) and the recipe is 6 points either way.
the pillsberry devil’s food were the only ones I found that listed both reduced sugar and regular, and we don’t have either here so I can’t barcode scan to check if they are right

Under the old Weight Watcher Point system you are correct. Each recipe is 3 points, regardless if it is reduced sugar. However, in the new Weight Watcher point system the points are 4 for reduced sugar and 5 for regular cake. Check it out on http://www.calculatorcat.com/free_calculators/weight_watchers_calculator.phtml.
I made these awesome cakes yesterday and my family really enjoyed them. I couldn’t keep up with making them before they were grabbed right off the counter. I used 1 Angel Food mix and 1 regular chocolate mix and used water for the liquid. I used 3 Table spoons of mix to 2 Table spoons of water in micro safe dish. 1 Table spoon low fat/cal frosting. micro for 1 minute in my micro and TADA! It’s Cake!.
Try this delicious cake you will not be disapointed.
Is it possible to give me the numbers for the OLD WW points? I do the old point system, so the points will be lower! Thanks!
Lynette,
The four points are from the old Weight Watcher points system. With pointsplus the points are 5. If you ever need to calculate the weight watcher points using either points system use this calculator, http://www.calculatorcat.com/free_calculators/weight_watchers_calculator.phtml It comes in handy! Hi, can you tell me how many calories this cake averages? with and without water? My friends and I were just talking about this cake. But,some of us aren’t doing weight watchers, and we were curious. Thanks again for posting your vids, and helping us to combat that orange monster.
Hi Nina,
It’s about 50 calories per point. This recipe is 4 points, so that would be 200 calories. Of course this is going to depend on the mix(es)you use too. If you don’t use a sugar free mix, you’ll need to add the extra calories. And if you use regular soda instead of diet or water, or another liquid with sugar, then of course there are even more calories to add.
Stick with the sugar free mixes if you can and use water, and you’ll be sure to keep it at 200 calories per serving.
Let me know how you like it!
Wendy
Thanks a bunch I will. and for 1.5 pts more. I can have an icecream cup @ 80 cals a serving and 0.5 g fat. Cool beans. I can have my cake, icecream and eat it too. That rocks!
